Codex Sinaiticus was discovered by Constantin von Tischendorf during the third to visit the Monastery of St Catherine, on Mount Sinai in Egypt, in 1859. The manuscript was bought by the British Library in 1933, from the Soviet Union, for the sum of 100,000 pounds.
Of the approximately 1,400 pages were kept around 800, now scanned and available online.
